Winter Blues

This is an arrangement of two pieces. The lower portion is a board covered in a gypsum solution then left in the cold overnight to freeze. The way the putty crystalized left an interesting pattern compared to the lines I made on the piece above.

The plan for the top piece was to make thick lines and then to use a paint roller. I rolled both pieces. The clean application of paint compared to individually painting each lines is nice for some purposes. Certainly easier and quicker. The rolled paint over the frozen piece had a cool effect of letting the ice lines show.

I made this piece to stay busy. I didn’t have any big ideas but I still wanted to make something. Looking back, the contrast between the two is interesting. Something so jagged and harsh, compared to the smooth and flowing lines above. The blue speaks for itself.
