The beginning
November, 1, 2025
This is the first piece I made when I decided I wanted to start making stuff, things, art. I have a history drawing in this style and had wanted to do something besides pencil and paper. I had seen other artist work with 3D mediums and I must have been influenced along the countless scrolling sessions. I decided to get some gypsum putty, spray paint, and a birch board. I had no plans for the design, the color, or end product. In the moment, I just wanted something to do and chose colors I liked.
I started putting the lines down and got lost in the process. It was therapeutic in a way. It was like assembling a puzzle without knowing what the pieces were or what the end picture was supposed to be. It was an experiment to see what I could make with the medium and tools. What lines look good, how can I space them, how can I manipulate the piping to change the weight and structure of the lines. I left a blank spot on the board and decided to add the little sun in that spot. The only reason that was there was to try making a sunburst with the paint I had. I’ve always been intrigued by depictions of light and sun, so I wanted to see what crude attempt I could pull off.
